What is a Soldering Machine

2026-08-24

1. What is a Soldering Machine

An automatic soldering machine is a professional automated processing device that melts tin alloy solder wires through constant temperature heating. It realizes electrical conduction and mechanical fixation between component pins and metal contacts. After the molten solder fully infiltrates the welding points and cools down to solidify, stable electrical connection and firm structural bonding can be achieved.

It is critical to distinguish soldering from traditional welding. Soldering operates at a low temperature range of 230℃ to 380℃, which only melts the solder material without damaging or melting the workpiece itself. In contrast, conventional fusion welding melts the base metal of workpieces to realize integration. This feature makes soldering the core process for precision electronic assembly.

2. Working Principle of Automatic Soldering Machines

The mainstream automatic wire-feeding soldering machine adopts standardized and intelligent welding procedures with stable and repeatable processes. The complete working flow is as follows:

Heating: The internal heating core of the soldering iron tip heats up rapidly and maintains a constant temperature that meets the solder melting standard.

Positioning: The precision motion system drives the soldering iron tip to accurately locate and reach the designated welding position of the product.

Solder Feeding: The automatic wire-feeding mechanism quantitatively delivers solder wire to the contact position between the soldering iron tip and the workpiece.

Solder Wetting & Fusion: High temperature melts the solder wire, and the liquid solder evenly covers the PCB copper foil and component pins to form full wetting.

Solder Stopping: The system automatically stops wire feeding when the solder volume reaches the preset standard to avoid excessive or insufficient solder.

Cooling & Solidification: The soldering iron tip resets and leaves the welding point. The solder cools and solidifies naturally, forming a high-strength and high-conductivity welding joint to complete the assembly process.

3. Main Application Industries of Soldering Machines

Automatic soldering equipment is widely applicable to almost all manufacturing scenarios involving PCB boards, electronic wiring and precision metal connection, covering multiple core industrial fields:

Consumer Electronics Industry: Precision soldering for mobile phones, Bluetooth headsets, power banks, chargers, tablets and remote controls, including welding of resistors, capacitors, chips and flexible flat cables on PCB boards.

Home Appliance Industry: Welding process for control boards and power terminal blocks of TVs, air conditioners, washing machines, rice cookers, range hoods and other household appliances.

Automotive Electronics Industry: High-reliability soldering for on-board displays, vehicle infotainment systems, sensors, lamp controllers and wiring harness terminals, adapting to strict vehicle-grade quality standards.

New Energy Industry: Processing and welding of lithium battery protection boards, energy storage modules, charging pile internal circuit boards and BMS battery management systems.

Industrial Control & Automation Industry: Precision welding for PLC systems, sensors, relays, servo drivers and MES equipment control boards.

Medical Device Industry: High-cleanliness and high-stability soldering for blood pressure monitors, testing instruments and medical electronic control boards to meet medical-grade precision requirements.

LED Lighting Industry: Batch soldering for LED light strips, lamp boards and display screen modules, efficiently adapting to high-volume and high-density welding scenarios.

Wiring Harness Processing Industry: Fixed welding and conductive connection for various wires, terminals and connectors.

Security & Electronic Toy Industry: Welding production of main boards for surveillance cameras, alarm devices and electronic toys.

4. Core Advantages of Automatic Soldering Machines

4.1 Advantages Over Manual Soldering

Stable and Consistent Welding Quality: Automatic equipment unifies welding temperature, solder feeding volume and working time, effectively eliminating defective problems such as cold solder, virtual solder and missing solder caused by manual fatigue and operational differences, and greatly improving product yield.

High Production Efficiency: The equipment supports 24-hour uninterrupted continuous operation. A single automatic soldering machine can replace multiple manual workers, perfectly matching large-scale and mass production modes.

Comprehensive Cost Reduction: It effectively saves long-term labor costs for skilled workers, reduces product rework and maintenance losses caused by manual welding defects, and optimizes overall production costs.

Adaptable to Precision Micro Welding: It can accurately complete ultra-fine welding of microchips and dense flexible cables that are difficult for manual operation, meeting the production requirements of miniaturized and high-precision electronic products.

Optimized Working Environment: It reduces workers’ direct contact with high-temperature soldering irons and soldering fume, lowering scald risks. Equipped with fume purification devices, it effectively improves workshop operation safety and working conditions.

4.2 Inherent Process Advantages of Soldering Technology

Excellent Electrical Conductivity: The metal bonding formed by soldering ensures stable transmission of current and signals, guaranteeing the normal and stable operation of electronic circuits.

Convenient Assembly and Maintenance: The low melting point of solder allows secondary heating and disassembly of components, facilitating product inspection, maintenance and parts replacement.

Reliable Fixation and Seismic Performance: Solder can firmly fix component pins. The integrated welding structure effectively prevents component falling off and failure caused by equipment vibration during operation.
